Air India has placed orders for 100 planes with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, which includes 90 narrow-body A320 family aircraft and 10 wide-body A350 aircraft.
Last year, Air India placed the world's second-largest order for aircraft, which included 250 planes with Airbus and 220 with Boeing. Nipun Aggarwal commercial and transformation officer (CCTO) said that the airline secured ‘options’ to widen order by 379 additional planes.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India said that seeing the growth of air travel in India, buoyed by infrastructural expansion and young population, Air India will be needing more than 470 aircraft ordered last year. The addition of 100 Airbus aircraft will help Air India in becoming a world-class entity.
As of now, Air India consists of 344 new aircraft from Airbus. The company has already acquired six A350s.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury expressed happiness about the additional order as it goes in line with the success of “Vihaan.AI”, a transformation plan launched under Ratan Tata’s leadership.
